American Idol Social Network - Is there such a social network? Is it a college social network?

I was looking at some news today and found out that the rush that’s been spreading throughout the country these weeks with the American Idol TV show on Fox has also put the web on fire.

So, my dear friend, the question everyone’s asking nowadays (other than Who won the American Idol contest?) is simple:

Is there an American Idol Social Network?

and, if so, Is there a college social network about American Idol? — considering that the contestants are young people (teenagers) and they should be familiar with the Internet and the social networking wave.

These questions, as simple as they may seem, has been on the minds of so many people that they should have a simple answer:

Yes, there is (an American Idol college social network).

It’s been here before the final of the Fox show, it’s been here before the show even begun, it’s been here since always

Here, meaning on the Internet, of course.

Let’s see now…

Facebook American Idol Group

Yeap, it’s a college social network about American Idol alright

A. Face it on Facebook: that college social network has a group related to American Idol. And there are, as we speak, 30,392 fans in that group. It looks interesting, and I personally consider Facebook to be a safe social network.

Go ahead, take a look and see if that group and, by all means, that social network fits your needs (here’s a direct link).

Bebo American Idol Fans

That’s also a college social network group, yet again. However, it has less members: only 301 fans, until today (May the 16th, 2008). That’s like 10 percent of the total number of fans from Facebook.

Friendster American Idol Fans

That’s one large network, alright. Too bad they (the people at Friendster) show the public groups so that we all could get an idea on how people meet there and socialize in groups or communities of fans.

Anyhow, here’s a link to fans of American Idol on Friendster. Keep in mind: the people on that page are fans of American Idol user, not TV show. That’s an user with the nickname American Idol, not a group.

And there are a lot of fans, by the way: 6882, almost five times less than there are on Facebook.

So, if we were to draw the line and find out the name of the best college social network with American Idol fans / communities, I’d say that Facebook is definitely in the lead.
